Frogs in a Pond’s New Album ‘Lily Pad Resurrection’ Out Now

Also available on all the streaming platforms.

Hec and I started work on this shortly after our last work, the 7-song self-titled in November 20th, 2023. I bought my first electric guitar on the 27th.

Handling the mixing/producing skills was probably the greatest challenge. I love the control, but it can feel a little less joyful compared to the act of playing and composing. There’s still a lot to learn but I can feel the beginnings of that exiting phase where you’re familiar enough with a subject that you can take in a lot of new information at once.

That’s the biggest thing, in the process of wrapping up production we’ve already developed so many ideas for the possibilities in the future. Every new artist I listen to, every time I pick up an instrument, I can feel how infinite what you can do with music is.

I think I’ve learned a bit more to trust the things I like when I’m developing things, rather than being so insecure about it’s “appeal” (I think this is also behind my sometimes guarded recommendations). Something I’ve picked up from doing improv, is that usually when you’re having the most “fun” is when you’re doing your best work. “Fun” is when you’re 100% engaged, emotionally and physically.

It’s interesting because so many of these songs are a snapshot of my specific fixations or experiences across the last few years. The album was originally going to be much shorter…but I kept writing songs.

Enjoy. Let me know what you connected with. Or even if you don’t. I love (fair) critique. I feel like my ambitions are still far ahead. I couldn’t find a way to phrase that sentence that doesn’t sound stupid.

  1. The album is great! Been listening to songs on repeat since it came out! My favorite is Thank you, amen. I think the whole song sounds beautiful (the part with the overlapping vocals reminded me of how Lin Manuel Miranda does that in some of his works, love it when he does that). I also really liked Leather Hands, Te Contaré (really cool that you guys have different languages in the album btw), There was a girl, Fantastic Vibrations, Do the right thing, Snowman (especially the vocals), Gregor Samsara (allusion to Kafka? If so, then really cool!), and Artificial Symphony.

Listening to these songs, I feel, it’s clear that many of them are personal and I just really admire that. Will you guys be posting the lyrics to the songs or even what inspired them sometime, if haven’t already? Overall, amazing work! ^^

    • Thank you, and thanks for sharing! You’re the first person to catch the Kafka reference, nicely done. One of my favorite authors.

You know, I submitted lyrics alongside the songs with our distributor (distrokid), but as far as I can tell they haven’t yet appeared on any platform. Regardless, we’ll be uploading individual lyric vids/MVs for each song so those will have lyrics in-video or description. I like talking influences, though I do want to be a little careful since I think a bit of intentional vagueness around the subject makes things more interesting.

      • Fair point! I have a tendency to overanalyze songs and try to figure out what they mean (John Lennon probably would’ve hated me (ᵕ—ᴗ—) ). I like what you said though about a bit of vagueness. I rarely think of it that way, but I can see what you mean, it does keep things interesting! Can’t wait to see any lyric videos, MVs and whatever else you guys come up with next!
