What the hell am I doing?

No seriously, what have I been up to? I imagine that’s probably why you’re here. Who even goes to a personal website these days?! What is this, the stone age?

I’d ideally like to make this more of a central location to share things as I’ve come to really dislike the amount of control we give to aggregate sites over how we communicate with audiences and share art. Not that I’m not addicted to it anyway. Thinking of moving towards bsky if I see enough migration, as attached as I am to my following list and for all the nice things twitter as a platform has just continually degraded so much before my eyes that it gets harder and harder to justify giving it my time. At this point I think it is genuinely making the world a worse place.

To give the quick breakdown, here is what I’ve been up to lately:

#1 ANIMATED PILOT

Yes that’s right, I am producing an animated pilot. An extension of the Spilling the Milk brand (but hopefully very unexpected and surprising!) It’s based on an idea I pitched to Jack and some other friends that head the core creative team back in late-January. I’m lead director, co-writer, am contributing to character design, storyboard, animation, music, I have my hands in as many bits as I can get them on. I’ll hold off on spoiling the juicy details – we’ll have a full announcement video coming November or December. The process has been full of so many unique challenges, is so hard but so fun, and really has made me love and respect the process and medium of animation so much more. While I can’t promise it’ll be good, I am really trying to create something that will feel new and interesting while still paying homage to all the stuff Jack and I love in a show. Fingers crossed it works out, but I think there’s gonna be some super cool stuff and I can’t wait to share it! Current planned release date is early next year.

#2 ALBUM

If you haven’t seen the new singles for my band, Frogs in a Pond, go give them a listen! I think they’re our best work yet, and I also think that will hold true for everything to come on this upcoming album! There’s a wide range of styles, and on a raw technical level I’ve been really trying to step up my skill. I started take voice lessons shortly after there release of our first album and I hope that will be noticeable in what’s to come. We plan on releasing a new single soon-ish, so stay tuned for that. Unfortunately we can’t record nearly as often as I’d like, so the process is slow, but with current pace it should be done next year!

#3 SHORT VIDEOS

I briefly attempted a monthly media review (the last post on here). However it really was just time consuming. Once I start writing it’s hard to stop. So I’ve started posting brief videos on my side channel, korwashere. I’ll be talking about my thoughts on art I find interesting and artistic philosophy in general, as well as whatever else happens to strike my interest. Essentially anything I feel the strong desire to talk about that I don’t want to bore my friends to death with! Right now I have a video on Wild Robot and Look Back, will make an attempt to keep up to date with any new animated films in theaters that seem worthwhile.

#4 A GAME?!

I did art (character sprites), music, and sound design for my long-time friend Hiding’s game jam game! You can check out his video on the process here (I’m in it as well), play the game here, or give a listen to the music I made for it here. We’re planning to give it a Halloween update with some additional content and QOL changes.

#5 100% UMBRELLA

I stream twice a month on twitch with my friend Shabu. We do a pretty random variety of stuff, from talking about music and Japan (he’s currently studying Japanese there and is an experienced professional composer and music editor/director) to PLAYING EVERY RAT GAME. Currently working on revamping our YT channel and moving into a more variety gaming format.

#6 BITS AND BOBS

The beautiful thing about life is you can really just learn stuff whenever you want. And I’ve been trying to take that to heart. Outside of general production, I try to dedicate as much time as I can to studying art, practicing music, improv and acting, etc. Recently started posting pages from my sketchbook on twitter as a way to encourage myself to draw every day and be less precious about sharing my work (perhaps I could share those here in a weekly update type post?) I’m trying to better my ability as a comedian, performer, and artist.

#7 THE OBVIOUS

Spilling the Milk. duh.

Conclusion

I’m doing things I promise!!! I really hate that I didn’t make myself finish my third short film before I started working on the pilot as I have not had the time to work on animating it but I do intend to make more as they scratch a personal esoteric itch deep inside me I can’t satisfying with a (still weird, but obviously more conventional) pilot. I have some loose plans to start posting short comics (at most the length of Kotori, but even more in the 1-3 page range) to scratch that storytelling itch as well. Sometime in the distant future I’d like to make a proper graphic novel, so I could use the practice.

I hope that was interesting enough. As a reward, have this picture of a frog.
